Gaerne is an Italian manufacturer of motorcycle boots from Conegliano that has been stitching boots since 1962 — and still makes them at home in Italy, not in Asia. The flagship SG12 and the newer SG22 are worn by the world's motocross and hard enduro elite; they are built around a dual-pivot ankle joint that follows the natural movement of the leg, a one-piece steel toe cap and a gel inner liner. The practical advantage over cheap competitors is repairability — soles, buckles and straps can all be replaced, so a good boot lasts several seasons instead of one. The Fastback is the best-selling compromise between protection and price, the GX1 is the entry point for hobby riders and the GXJ is the kids' range.
